Many thanks to Jay Dicharry for joining me on the "The Art of Medicine with Dr. Andrew Wilner."

Jay is a practicing physical therapist specializing in preventing, diagnosing, and treating sports injuries in recreational and elite athletes. He teaches in the Oregon State Physical Therapy Program. Jay is also the author of “Running Rewired.” First published in 2017, a second edition has just been released. “Running Rewired” is an exercise guide for faster, safer running.

Joe was the medical director of a gait and biomechanics lab at the University of Virginia, which greatly influenced his career path. Joe is also the inventor of the MOBO Board, designed to strengthen and train the feet to improve athletic performance: https://www.moboboard.com

During our 20-minute discussion, Jay insisted that everyone can improve their physical performance, even those in the “Masters” category! However, he emphasized that physical preparation is necessary to prevent injury and maximize performance. He shares “Wolff’s Law” and also commented on the relative value of expensive running shoes!

Here's an article by Jay about choosing running shoes. It's terrific!
